Prism Sound Web Site Accessibility

We are keen to make this web site as accessible as possible and have aimed to provide the easiest and most intuitive navigation to the information that you want.

Site design
This site has been designed from the ground up to work with screen-readers and with text-only browsers or browsers with graphics disabled. To this end we have minimised the use of graphics and tables for layout and menus. All graphics have the alt text filled in, and most also have title attributes in order to display tooltips. The graphics that do have links also have tooltips describing the nature of the link.

The main site navigation uses simple text based lists with graphics behind them. The site layout and menus remain intact with graphics turned off, and remain navigable even with the style sheet disabled. Users of screen readers will hopefully find that the site is not unduly cluttered with irrelevant text and menus.

Browser Compatibility
We have made concerted efforts to make sure this site displays correctly in a wide range of browsers at a wide range of resolutions and is HTML W3C standards compliant. With a few exceptions where large graphics are displayed, the pages all fit on 800 x 600 screens without requiring a horizontal scroll bar. The layout was designed using Firefox 1.5 and 2.0, and checked in IE6, IE7, Opera 8 and 9, Firefox 1.5 for Linux, and Safari for Mac. It has been partially checked using a Lynx emulator and appears to be easily navigable. If you are using IE6 or IE7 and the page footer appears half way up the page, just refresh the page and it will probably get it right the next time. This is a weakness in IE and doesn't effect the functioning of the site.

JavaScript, Flash and Cookies etc.
The main structure of the site uses minimal JavaScript or Flash. There is a single small Flash intro on the index page which should load and run in under a second and a flash animation in the left panel. The navigation of the site does not depend on Flash. Javascript is used for controlling cookies, and some pages use JavaScript to hide and reveal details in long lists (eg, FAQ pages where answers to each question are revealed using JavaScript). Without Javascript you will not be able to see the answers to these FAQs. The majority of the site is simple HTML and all the clever stuff is done on the server. Cookies are used on the intro page to remember your choice of site, Test & Measurement, Recording & Production, or Logging & Transcription. With cookies disabled the buttons for this choice will not work and you will need to use the text links below them. No other cookies are used on the site.

Let us know what you think
Although we have recently re-designed the site with accessibility in mind, we may well have missed something obvious. If you have trouble with any of the pages, please let our webmaster know by emailing webmaster@prismsound.com. Please start the subject line of your email with the words "Web Site" as this helps us to filter out genuine emails from the spam. If we can't improve the site, we will attempt to provide a custom solution such as emailing you the content in a different format.
