UK dance music experts at WMC 2012

Thousands of Dance music fans flocked to Florida earlier this month for the Miami Winter Music Conference 2012, a buzzing event that saw world-class DJs and producers perform at hundreds of venues in South Beach and Downtown Miami.

To complement WMC's creative buzz, Prism Sound teamed up with other leading audio hardware manufacturers and software developers to host two very special Dance Music production workshops, which were delivered by UK producers Matt Schwartz and Steve Mac.

Both workshops pulled in a large number of attendees and were a huge success.
Both workshops pulled in a large number of attendees and were a huge success.

Speaking after the event, Steve Mac says: "I really enjoyed doing the Prism Sound workshop and was most proud of the turnout. After spending over 20 years making records, I get real pleasure sharing my knowledge in sound engineering, mixing and studio production and I will be continuing to do this in the near future."

His views were reinforced by Matt Schwartz who says: "Explaining how to make a dance record in a few hours can be difficult, but when you have a Prism Sound Orpheus to handle all the conversion tasks things become much easier because you don't have to worry about the sound you are listening to.

"We showed a fairly common way of arranging a dance record and mastering it (intro breakdown, main part, breakdown, outro) and also touched on how to create the right feel of dynamic in a club record.

"Steve and I have embraced the future without forgetting the past so we were also trying to explain how important the foundations of dance music are, how history shapes the future and how people should not be scared of trying new things as they can always go back to the safe realm of the past."

Matt adds that he also enjoyed the remix panel, which included some of the greatest dance producers and remixers representing four decades of music.

"It was fun," he says. "I can't wait to do another workshop with Prism Sound at next year's Winter Music Conference."

As well as benefiting from Steve and Matt's combined experience, those attending the workshops also had the opportunity to enter a mammoth prize draw to win a variety of audio production hardware and software from Prism Sound, PMC, FXpansion, Sonnox, Brainworx, Toon Track, Eventide, Soundtoys and more!

Among the winners were Robert Munoz, who took home a selection of Brainworx mastering software; Aym Mokrivala, who won a Sonnox Enhanced Bundle; Spaceman, who drew the Eventide Omnipressor and 2016 Stereo room software and Eric De leon, who won the Soundtoys prize.
