Bob Fix Mastering invests in a Prism Sound DA-2 DA ConverterCambridge, UK: Bob Fix Mastering has recently bought a Prism Sound DA-2 DA converter for its studio based in the Italian city of Naples. The unit was purchased though Prism Sound's Italian distributor, Funky Junk, and the company's eponymous owner, Bob Fix, explains that he bought it to have a second DA feeding his analogue chain.
"In the case of a DA converter like this, more than features, it's the sound that's important. I just like it," he comments. "It's how the analogue chain responds downstream. It fits in very well. I have found out that I have been using the DA-2 about 90% of the time compared to the other DA."
The Prism Sound DA-2, 96kHz, 24-bit DA converter provides ultimate-quality monitoring of digital audio signals. Its exceptional linearity and rock-steady clock generation and recovery ensure the highest conversion precision available for recording and mastering applications. It combines state-of-the-art audio performance with the advanced features needed by the professional to provide the most revealing, most transparent and most flexible digital to analogue conversion unit available. Of particular importance is its ability to avoid the unpleasant effects of jitter. The exceptionally stable PLL has high jitter-attenuation, and the DA-2's digital outputs can provide a de-jittered digital feed-through for reliable digital transfers. The DA-2 also has a unique 'master clock' mode in which the effects of incoming clock jitter are eliminated completely.
Bob Fix Mastering's customers work in all styles of music, from indie and pop to classical and jazz. "I've used the DA2 on a lot of local stuff over the summer and for the past few weeks a big classical recording from Rome. I find going analogue in this case very positive, even for classical," he adds.
