Thursday 2:25 - 2:55PM Dean "Sir" Gant: Production Techniques: The Making of "The Journey"

Walker; Saxophonist, Gerald Albright, Trumpeter, Rahmlee; Dr. George Shaw on flugelhorn: Bassists Marcus Miller and Nathan East; and Percussionist Paulinho da Costa contributed their artistry to the intricate course of " the Journey ".
Gant's project, "The Journey" is a musical anthology that celebrates the genius he has lent to many top artists over the span of his career. His co-production and arrangement of Anita Baker's Rapture LP, sold over 4 million copies and garnered 2 Grammys, including one for best R&B song, "Sweet Love", which Gant arranged and on which he played the song's memorable piano part. On her self-titled debut album, "Madonna", Gant 's stylish synthesizer gliss defined "Lucky Star" & "Borderline"--both of which defined Madonna's career. Peabo Bryson, Outkast, Earth, Wind & Fire and many others are among those on whose records he has performed, written, arranged or produced chart-topping Grammy Award winning hits.
Thursday 4:25 - 4:55PM Tommy Vicari: "Do's and don'ts for mixing and producing Award winning records and movie scores"
Grammy and Emmy Award winning engineer/producer ( Quincy Jones, Prince, Patrice Rushen, Jeffrey Osborne, George Duke) Tommy Vicari presents numerous examples of his engineering and producing skills, including some rare Quincy Jones material in 5.1, which will make for an extremely entertaining and educational session!
Vicari has a 'great set of ears'; that's certainly one of the reasons for his long and successful career as an engineer. He's worked with artists from George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Quincy Jones, and Ray Charles to Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Barbara Streisand, Billy Idol, and Prince, to name just a few. Along the way he's also picked up a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, for Q's 'Jook Joint' in 1997 and three Prime Time Emmy Awards, as well as several additional Grammy and Emmy nominations. Another of Vicari's assets is versatility. Mixing blockbuster movies like Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Iron Man, Revolutionary Road and many others, his record credits range from classic jazz to smooth pop and the hippest of R&B. Since 1996, Vicari has occupied that mixing hot seat: the live broadcast of the Academy Awards.
Friday 11:10 - 11:40AM Kannon "Caviar" Cross: "For the acquired taste ........in producing"
Award winning composer/producer (Macy Gray, T.I), Caviar will present the audience with his production skills in creating his successful signature sound, which made him the "to go to" producer for hit albums of people like TI, Devin "the Dude" and R&B sensation Macy Gray. Creating beats, lyrics and flows are what Caviar will present the audience at ASCAP.
Friday 1:00 - 2:30PM Dave Isaac: "Mixing inside the box from outside the box"
Having worked in both the "analogue" studios as well as the "digital", multi Grammy Award winning producer engineer (Marcus Miller, Anita Baker, Eric Clapton, Madonna) Dave Isaac will explain how to use that knowledge to create better sounding mixes while working in your bedroom. With nowadays tools a lot can be accomplished, but only if you understand the essential principals in audio production and engineering. Having engineered several award winning albums "in the box" , Dave is the ultimate example of using "analogue" knowledge to get the best out of the digital world!
Friday 3:55 - 4:25PM Sheila E
(a multi-faceted drummer, percussionist, vocalist, songwriter, performer, arranger, producer, composer, instrumentalist and humanitarian who really needs no further introduction) will spread her enthusiasm for "passing it on" to a new generation at the ASCAP show.
