The dScope's automation capabilities also allow control of other Windows applications such as Word processors and spreadsheets. A script can therefore make all necessary measurements and log them to a file, printing out a series of results when complete. This entire process can be automated and set up to run at the click of a button.
The same automation capabilities are available to control the dScope externally from a different programming language such as Visual Basic, C++, LabVIEW or any language that allows the use of ActiveX Controls. In this way a more complex user interface can be created, or the dScope can be incorporated into an existing test suite that already controls other parts of a test sequence.
Many features of the dScope allow very fast automated tests, making it ideal for testing of mass-production, low-margin audio equipment such as MP3 players or mobile phone handsets. Many companies are already making use of this ability on their production lines. Multi-tone testing, combined with the dScope's unique FFT Detector capability, makes it possible to capture and record many simultaneous measurements in a short space of time.
For Equipment Under Test that has more than two channels, the dS-NET I/O Switcher can be easily incorporated into a script. Each switcher gives up to 16 x 2 input or output channels, and these can be daisy-chained together to allow many more channels to be tested quickly and easily. A simple setup procedure allows the switchers to be treated as a “Channel Array” which means that once set up, a channel simply needs to be referred to by index and the automation system can determine which switcher and channel needs to be selected. An entire multi-channel device can thus be tested quickly and easily from a script.
For equipment where access is needed to the digital audio information at board level, the dS-NET VSIO Adapter provides a solution. This allows the dScope to interface directly with digital audio serial interfaces such as I2S and can also be controlled directly from the dScope.
Full production test automation, including support for multiple workstations and logging results to a central database over network connections is made easy by the AutoTestSQL automated production test system. AutoTestSQL is a sophisticated, networkable, multi-user database application that allows easy creation of new test sequences, provides a simple run-time user interface and automatically stores results along with test sequence information (including test limits) on a session by session basis in an SQL database. It provides a complete framework for setting up, running and managing complex production tests with the dScope Series III.
Application-level support
The dScope's automation interface is simple and easy to use, and its built-in script editor gives you all the information you need to drag-and-drop the script commands from a pre-defined list.
