Maselec MMA-4XR FAQ, Tips and Techniques
|?||Where do I find the Operation Manual for the MMA-4XR?|
|The MMA-4XR is a self-explanatory 'minimalist' audiophile 4-channel microphone pre-amplifier and as such has no Operation Manual. Most users find that any questions they do have are answered here, but more help and information is readily available by contacting Prism Sound directly.
|?||Does the MMA-4XR use microphone input transformers?|
|No. The unit incorporates balanced transformerless low-noise input circuits.
|?||One of the microphones appears dead.|
|Check that the phantom power is switched on if required by the microphone.
|?||What is phantom power?|
|Phantom power is a +48V DC supply which can be fed through resistors to both legs of each balanced microphone input in order to provide power to a capacitor microphone.
|?||I plugged in an unbalanced mic with the phantom power switched on. Have I damaged anything?|
|Extremely unlikely. The current-limiting resistors provide protection. But only turn on the phantom power when using the relevant type of mic.
|?||I want the best possible signal to noise ratio from dynamic mics. What's the best mic impedance to choose for the MMA-4XR?|
|The industry-standard 150 to 200 ohms.
